Cancer survivors are very special people at Relay For Life.  We invite all cancer survivors to join us for a special celebration to kick-off the event. Cheshire begins the Relay For Life at 3:00pm on Friday June 8th.  The official Opening Ceremony commences around 6:00pm.  Following the ceremony, survivors celebrate their survivorship by joining together with the Survivor's Celebration Lap. After this lap, caregivers are encouraged to take a special lap with our courageous survivors.

After the Celebration Laps a special survivors' reception is held under the Survivors' Tent on Friday evening. We invite you and your family to join us for a variety of refreshments and conversation.  Last year, over 120 survivors were recognized at this reception.

Survivors are also honored during the luminaria ceremony. The luminaria ceremony will commence at dusk and will include the lighting of the luminaria bags that will encircle the track to light the way for the walkers. Each luminaria named in honor of a survivor or one who has been lost to cancer.

For the newly diagnosed, Relay For Life offers an opportunity to meet someone who has survived the same type of cancer. For the cancer patient in treatment, Relay For Life offers the opportunity to share with others. For the long-term survivor, Relay For Life brings recognition that the community cares about their struggle and closure to a trying time in life. Your strength and courage help the community see that cancer survivorship is real and that we are making progress towards a cure.

Another group finding hope in Relay For Life are the caregivers. These individuals give their time, love and support to friends, family and neighbors who face cancer. At Relay For Life, everyone understands the challenges and joys of being a caregiver.
